Schooled by a 5 year Old

Ladies and Gentlemen… today for your first #TwelveDaysOfBlogging post I give you….
Claire… the most adorable KODA on the planet.
What’s a KODA you ask?
A KODA is a Kid of Deaf Adult.

Here she is…

And you thought your kid’s Christmas Program was adorable!
Claire was signing for her mom and dad… who are both deaf.
While the other kids did “generic” hand signals…
Claire blew the audience away with her ASL… American Sign Language.
Not to leave out those adorable facial expressions…
but I think this week especially the sign language takes center stage.

If only Claire had been available for the Nelson Mandela Memorial Service…
maybe the fake sign language debacle would not  have taken place…
and we would be talking more about the Champion Nelson Mandela
was instead of this…

The interpreter’s name is Thamsanqa Jantjie.
Today he is saying that he was hallucinating… hearing voices… and lost concentration.
In his explanation… most people hear excuses.
I refuse to hear his explanation as an excuse…
and I choose to hear it as a cry… a cry for grace.

Isn’t that what we all long for… grace?
Everyone wants a second chance…
and it’s just our luck… that God happens to be a God of second chances.

I think this is one reason that He has given us the beauty known as Claire Koch…
Claire is today’s redemption for sign language… for Thamsanqa Jantjie…
for every deaf person in the world.

Grace is the reason we celebrate Christmas…
that first Christmas humanity received grace packaged in the form of a baby.
But let’s not confuse the gift for the package…
the gift was grace… and yes… Jesus is grace…
but if Jesus did not die…we do not have grace…
if Jesus did not rise… we do not have grace.

The Apostle Paul put it like this…
1 Corinthians 15:14-17
14 And if Christ has not been raised, then all our preaching is useless,
and your faith is useless.

15 And we apostles would all be lying about God—
for we have said that God raised Christ from the grave.
But that can’t be true if there is no resurrection of the dead.
16 And if there is no resurrection of the dead, then Christ has not been raised.
17 And if Christ has not been raised,
then your faith is useless and you are still guilty of your sins.

I pray that each of you find grace today…
wether it be in the story of an adorable girl named Claire…
or if it be in the forgiveness of someone you have hurt…
or someone who has hurt you.

Find grace today.
Give grace today.
Receive grace today.
That’s what Christmas is all about!

Do you have people in your life that like to make excuses?

Do you like to make excuses?

Just remember… their excuse… your excuse… is a cry for grace.
