Philippians 2:3-11
3 Don’t be selfish; don’t try to impress others. Be humble, thinking of others as better than yourselves. 4 Don’t look out only for your own interests, but take an interest in others, too. 5 You must have the same attitude that Christ Jesus had. 6 Though he was God, he did not think of equality with God as something to cling to. 7 Instead, he gave up his divine privileges;  he took the humble position of a slave and was born as a human being. When he appeared in human form, 8 he humbled himself in obedience to God and died a criminal’s death on a cross. 9 Therefore, God elevated him to the place of highest honor and gave him the name above all other names, 10 that at the name of Jesus every knee should bow, in heaven and on earth and under the earth, 11 and every tongue confess that Jesus Christ is Lord, to the glory of God the Father.

There’s nothing glorious about barbed wire.  There’s nothing glorious about slavery.  I’ve never seen a movie about a slave that was telling the world about his occupation. It’s a humbling thought to think of what slavery is.  Bondage. Nothing glorious about bondage.  Thats probably why barbed wire isn’t so glorious… because it keeps people and animals in bondage.  Regardless of what your tattoo artist tells you… barbed wire is not glamorous or glorious… it’s a symbol of bondage… slavery.  Not a sign of toughness… I think I’ve stumbled upon the reason barbed wire tattoos were only cool for about 5 years.  Barbed wire isn’t meant to be a fad… it’s meant to cause harm.

This post isn’t about fads or toughness… its about slavery… in particular choosing to be a slave.  Jesus chose to be a slave when He was God.  He wants us to choose to be a slave just like He did.  In order to do so… we must deny ourselves.  That’s not easy.  Forfeit our rights?  Heck no. Why would we do that?

Living for today… requires you to forfeit your rights.

Living for today… calls you to be a slave.

Living for today… requires the humility of a slave.

Living for today… requires you to think of others before you think of yourself.

Living for today… requires immediate action.

Live for today… life’s better that way.

What is something that you have done to give up your rights?  Please share…
